MORE OF THE NEIGHBORHOODS IN TOWN FROM THE OTHER DAY PHOTOS

THesewere taken the day before the snow arrived.  Yesterday we had some snow but it's already melting away.  Another storm comes in around Wednesday of next week - suppose to be one that brings 8 to 10" of snow.  Until then I'll be outside enjoying walks and such until the next snow.

Here are some I saw yesterday.  Some days instead of nature I enjoy taking photos of houses  and try to make sure nobody sees me.

THE OTHER DAY AT BIG BEAR LAKE - A FEW THINGS i saw

First off the Solar Observatory in Big Bear Lake.  I've written on it before but here is a clip from Wikipedia

 Walking along I saw smoke and at first thought a fire was starting in this area of houses along the lake but thankfull someone was burning logs in their fireplace.

It was a gorgeous day and I was happy to see that this white house whose windows hard been boarded up - the big windows - have now been replaced with new ones.  It was boarded up for months - maybe a year or two so this was nice to see.

WEEPING SILVER BIRCH

I've seen this tree now for seven autumns here in the mountains.  I just recently thought to try and identify it which I think I did correctly.  Unless I'm wrong, it is a "weeping silver birch".    I read that it is best suited for warm temps in summer and very cold in winter so that is why it appears so beautiful here at the lake.

It's a slow tree - it appears to move through the seasons in slow motion.  Some trees get their fall colors and before you know it the leaves are dropping.  This one has been moving towards this state it seems for six weeks or so - slowly going from green/yellow leaves to these beautiful gold leaves and still the ground beneath it doesn't have much leaf droppage.  (Just realized I don't think I've ever used the word droppage in anything I've written in the past)...Droppage...hmm

The only thing I remember about a "weeping" type of tree is when I was a kid in Kansas and we had a weeping willow tree which my sister and I would play under.

IT'S BEEN OVER A WEEK SINCE I POSTED AND THE COLORS NOW ARE AT THEIR PEAK

I've been all around the mountain towns up here  lately and color is peaking in so many places.  Only going to post one tonight but thanks for all the comments below.  It's hard for me to stay home and blog lately. 

Today's walk at the lake was amazing.  I love this little really old town.  They are revitalizing a lot around here and it seems there are things happening every weekend now -- not that we attend any but I can tell if I was younger like in my 40's or so I would enjoy it all.  For me - give me a camera, water, and beautiful trails around lakes and that's all I need  ...well... food of course and a beer here and there.

RENAMING OUR LITTLE TOWN'S LAKE - TO MIRROR LAKE

At least in my world in the fall I will call it Mirror Lake.  We had our walk the other day at just the right time to see these reflections.  Some of the reflections (one photo of which i turned upside down) could almost be an abstract painting. .
