GRASS VALLEY LAKE - LAKE ARROWHEAD AREA

Always at the change of any season I like to go drive through Grass Valley Lake - a small manmade lake near the Lake Arrowhead Country Club and Golf course. 

We were on our way to meet a friend for lunch and got there early so I had a chance to get some photos.  Some kind of microclimate was going on - when we left the house it was nice, sunny, not windy and all of a sudden once we got to the lake, the wind blew clouds in and it was so cold.

Every time I pass it I wish it was my back yard.  I love the greenhouse (or whatever it is) in their yard.  It looked so pretty yesterday - the lighting was just right in the yard to get a decent photo.

Lots more melting going on over at the lake that on my street and yard.  To finish our lake walk we walked up town a bit.

A YEAR AGO LAST YEAR

I wasn't posting much last February and I never did post snow photos around here.  I had the prior years here and there ... but this February now is the most snowy cold February we have experienced since moving to the mountains.

  These photos show not much snow last year at this time. I haven't been able to get out like I did last year because of crazy traffic from people coming up to play in the snow and roads that aren't being kept plowed much.  

I hope to get out more in the coming days.   I'm getting very very tired of being in the house.

SNOWING ALL DAY SINCE 8 THIS MORNING AND IS TO UNTIL 10:00 TONIGHT

They said we could get an additional 1 to 3" but it seems like there will be more.  It also seems to change from a wet snow to a powdery one.  Strange.  Anyway I'm looking at more colorful photos I've taken in the past.  I like this one of Lake Arrowhead Village in the background.

ANOTHER INCIDENT ON THE BEND IN THE ROAD

So usually it is the people who try to come up the road and can't make the turn at the bend/curve right where our driveway is because of ice.   This poor guy had four wheel drive evidently but didn't have it locked in and anyway he was coming down the road and when he made the turn and he slid into the berm.   We looked out and he kept reving his engine trying to back up so Mike needed to give him a couple pointers on driving downhill after snow with no chains. 

Between Mike and the guy who borrowed another shovel from our neighbor they began to shovel him out but eventually he was able to just back out...

Had to laugh just now - 5 minutes ago Mike went out to shovel our driveway and he said just wait - in a few minutes the plow will come by and leave a berm - So I'm sitting here and right now the plow went by and no doubt left a berm.

We didn't get that much snow but it's the ice underneath the snow from last night's temperatures and the remaining snow from the last storm that makes the curve a little treacherous if u aren't careful.  Thank God he didn't hit the electric pole and take out our power and internet.

So now that the plow came by our road is cleared and we can get out of here for awhile!!

STILL MORE SNOW COMING TONIGHT

Probably about 4 inches and in some areas about 6" - at least in the backyard when I was walking through it.  This wa his 3rd or 4th time shoveling driveway and wiping snow off jeep.  I tried to keep snow off railing so the birds could fly up and eat their seed.
