CAMBRIA CALIFORNIA - SCARECROW

Several years ago I took this while visiting the central coast and the small town of Cambria which is near San Simeon - on the coast.  They dress up the whole town with scarecrows. I wouldn't mind visiting there again on my trip in November

Tomorrow, typically we would go to Big Bear for their halloween celebration - but with the winds and such - not sure if it wil be happening.

Here's one of the scarecrows from Cambria.  He looks like a nice guy.

BEAUTIFUL WALK TODAY -

We made sure we got out today and over to Lake Arrowhead before the winds start up tonight.  I keep reading they will be extreme so hoping we don't lose power.  I like the idea that they will shut power off if the winds pose a danger.  I would rather deal with that than having to evacuate .

Anyway, the black oak trees and aspens are amazing right now at the lake.  I took lots of photos but only have time to post one.

FOUR YEARS AGO THIS WEEK IN OCTOBER ..

Looking back the lake was somewhat foggy - it was cool and no wind.  This October has been dry and windy off and on.  These are from 2015.

AN INTERESTING SCENE I SAW ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE APPLE FARM

We were in a small town, Yucaipa- when I was walking down the main street in search of something different to photograph when across the street from where I was walking was this motel.  I stopped to see it more clearly  and then  a wave of nostalgia washed over me.

I remember the trip in 1959 as a kid  when we moved from Kansas City to California and stopped in a few motels along the way.  I don't remember for sure if it was during that move or the trip we did several months before when we came out to California on a vacation but this motel just looked familiar to me.

I saw two boys playing out in front and the first photo shows them standing around and the second to me, looks like the older boy is challenging his younger brother to do something that might get him in trouble.  There's something about the way he is leaning towards the little guy.

Being in this town and walking on the main street seemed such a flash back to the 50's.  Even the smells of fall were present.

Speaking of smells, yesterday I walked out on our deck and someone was burning logs in a fireplace and it was the most fragrant incense smell.  Seeing as how we are surrounded by incense cedars all over the town and in fact, the whole mountain area, it would make sense that this is the wood they were burning.  I don't think I had ever before smelled this type of wood burning ....at least around here before .  Most of the time it is a wood burning smell that can get so obnoxious you have to close the windows.

YESTERDAY'S DAY TRIP TO OAK GLEN, CA

It was a beautiful day filled with color.  Luckily we went on a Thursday and not Friday or the weekend.  This places attracts thousands of visitors on a single day looking to come up for the fall experience of country mountain fall foliage, pumpkins, apples and down home cooking (baking mostly).

Thursday was perfect to go - the weather was mild and skies clear.

Most photos I've posted today are mainly of one particular area from several areas we stopped in at.   This is Riley's Farm.  I've posted photos before quite awhile ago but this is in a different season.

SCENES BEING FILMED AT OUR LAKE

About a week ago we were walking around the lake and noticed a movie crew.  We didn't know if it was a movie being filmed or  a commercial.  We later found out from locals that it is the second season of HomeComing.  The first season - some of the local shots were filmed in Running Springs with Julia Roberts.

Anyway it was a fun walk as I kept trying to capture some scenes of them filming.  They were here for a few days and we haven't seen them since.

Last summer there were a few movies with location shots filmed up here but not sure of their names.

The bottom photo just shows a bar where the locals hang out. It was in the same bunch of photos I took that day.

I DON'T DESIRE A BIG HOUSE

Just a house on the shoreline with a path down to my boat that is docked and ready to take out on the lake.

This photo was taken last December.  I first discovered this shoreline walk a year ago this month.  So it has now been a year since I've seen every season around the lake.  It's been a fun year with many different walks and I'm so glad I discovered a way into this private community.

The only problem with this particular area is I'm way across the water on the other side of the shore taking this photo and these houses are situated in a really extra private gated community and no one can get there  no matter how much one might try to figure out how to get over there - Maybe if I had a boat I could row to the docks and say howdy to those nice people.

A small 3 bedroom place will do me just fine as long as there is a boat and a dock.  One can dream...

SEVEN YEARS AGO TO THIS DAY - AFTER MOVING TO WRIGHTWOOD CA WHICH IS IN THE MOUNTAINS

The first snow of the season came.  We had moved in July 2012 and excited to be living in the mountains and was surprised that snow came so early.  We found out that it didn't normally happen that early and this snow event wasn't really much an event - just enough to give the ground a light frosting.

The photo of the deck - This place was intended to be an area I would spend a lot of time sitting around and read and relax.....  However, when we moved in, in this top photo you see the red house across from my deck there lived a dog - I'm 90% sure it was a Jack Russel terrier and it NEVER quit barking.  I grew to hate that dog and thought of a lot of really mean things I could do to it and I'm really not a mean person but I was on the edge of insanity with the incessant barking.   It never stopped - a shrill high toned yapping ...constantly. I'd go to sleep hearing it and that dog was the first noise I heard every morning.  The owner I"m sure could see and hear me yelling across the way to do something about the dog - let it inside.  Nothing worked. I did try talking one time to this person but the indifference to what I was saying was amazing.

We moved 18 months later and into a different mountain range.  I haven't since then, had an issue of a dog constantly barking which is nice.  Our next door neighbor now  had a dog who never barked even if it saw me outside in the yard.  I feel for people who live near someone with a dog that they let carry on all the time.

Anyway, these photos came up in my FB review so thought I'd post the memory here.

PHOTO TAKEN IN SEPTEMBER 2006

We were hanging out in Shell Beach up at the Central California coast waiting to hear when Hannah (our great niece)  was born.  I've always loved this photo especially because you can see the pelicans on the cliff which I took many photos of that day.  We also hung out at Madonna Inn for a few hours and Santa Margarita Lake and towards the end of our "wait" at the pier in Pismo Beach watching the seagulls.

In the bottom pic I was at an angle photographing the house that was next door to this house which is at the top here.  They both are on the cliffs overlooking the ocean.

Thirteen years ago and I imagine the pelicans are still nesting on these cliffs.  Maybe some of their offspring.

THE VILLAGE OF BIG BEAR

It was so colorful it felt like it was over saturated - in person and in my photos.

Beautiful day - around 70 and the slightest of breezes - felt good walking around in the village and then over by the lake.
