RECENTLY WE WENT TO THE LIBRARY DOWN IN TOWN

Mike had to renew his library card.  I always love to walk into this place.  The library's  location is right across the street from the lake and on the lake side of the  library they have benches outside on the  balcony where  you can sit and read or take in the view.

The outside photo of the library in the trees I took while walking at the lake and zoomed up to try and get a decent pic of the balcony.  The lake views are what you see when out on the balcony.  As you walk into the library there is a good size entry room that has a vending machine and some tables to sit at.

But, I have to say the best library I have ever been in is the Los Angeles Central Library and second is the Redlands Library however, for a small little town I think our library is pretty cool.

It's cooler today which is good because we have to go down the mountain for our monthly grocery trip.

YESTERDAY - IT WAS HUMID AND WE WERE WAITING FOR EARLY EVENING TO GO TO ARROWHEAD

Earlier we decided to just go for a quick drive around town and over to the road that looks out over the valley.  I got out of the jeep to photograph the clouds and had never taken photos of this area except in snow.  I thought it looked so pretty.  We travel this mountain road to go down to the area(s) where we use to live.

The group of houses down in the hills is Waterman Canyon - which is where the extremely destructive  2003 "Old Fire" started that burned so much of the mountain areas and also in to the city below the mountains.  This is the fire that came to our back fence when we lived down the mountain.

That Tudor House below is the house of a local here in the mountains.  He had a sports bar that burned down about 3 years ago in town and he is finally opening another one soon - probably with the next several weeks.  It takes a long time to open a business in the mountains and the reason according to many locals is that county inspectors take their time approving inspections.   I guess they get tired of driving mountain roads.

ON A HUMID DAY HEAD TO LAKE ARROWHEAD AROUND 7:00 P.M.

We waited until evening to take a long walk along the shoreline at Lake Arrowhead.  I had never been there at that time of day so I wanted to see what it felt like.  Most of the way was a little breezy so it was easy to not heat up until the last part of a 90 minute walk - about the last 10 minutes I was starting to feel the moisture in the air - humidity.

I looked at the city I spent my childhood in, Kansas City and our weather is just about the same.  This interests me because my parents were always complaining about the humidity and unless you are doing something really strenuous it doesn't seem too bad - at about 40% humidity with temps in high 80's.

So aside from the weather it was a beautiful evening walk and I even got to see the last of the sunset going down behind the mountains.  I took a lot of photos because the lighting was different and I could actually get more lit up pics of the other side of the lake which is usually in shadow at the time we go.

In the fall it will have been a year since we discovered the way in  to the shoreline and I've now got to see every season here. Fall is my favorite.

TEN YEARS AGO - IN 2009 - WE WERE GIVING SAM AND MEG A WEDDING RECEPTION

At our house we have since sold (sniff)...and coming across these photos reminds me of my kitchen and my favorite part which was the pantry my son Seth made, which use to be a dining room area.

The party was held outside at night on a warm ...fall night and although the marriage didn't last it was kind of cool seeing these photos again.  These were Sam's new inlaws...

They had gotten married the week before at a local church with just a few family members present.

THIS COMING WEEK - .... NO DOUBT ABOUT IT - I WILL BE SITTING HERE ON THIS PATIO

This patio holds a lot of nice memories and it is on the outside of the Mt. Baldy Lodge where we use to go and enjoy the day -when we would escape to the local mountains (before we ever lived in the mountains).

I've been wanting to go back.  The last time we were up here it was in winter/spring a few years back  and the umbrellas had been put away, the tables shoved to the side and covered.

I went and searched through my photo files because I kept seeing myself going to Mt. Baldy soon and enjoying a summer day in the cool air.  If it's not too hot when we go we can do a hike behind what use to be called the Ice House before it burned down so many years ago.

So soon I will be sipping a beer and enjoying the breezes.  I will go during the week - not the weekend when it will be crowded.  We have another power outage schedule for next week because of more power pole replacements so that will be a good day to head out.

I will come back with lots of photos no doubt.
  (understatement)!

TWO POSTS IN ONE DAY -

I wasn't going to post any more today but then remembered I had these photos I wanted to post from the other day.

We had to have an electric pole replaced, right across our driveway the other day so we decided to be out of the house all day because there was no power.  Just yesterday we found out that next week, we will have a day without power again as they our working on something else in our area.   We found out awhile ago (I may have mentioned it before) that because of the fires in Northern California this last fall which was so devastating, Edison has decided to replace over 1000 power poles here in the mountain communities that could eventually pose a threat in high winds.

Daily now, we have helicopters flying over as they are searching for problems with the poles and lines.

So.. the other day as they began work we decided to go up to Big Bear and what a beautiful day to be up there.  While others were dealing with heat - Big Bear had the most beautiful weather with cool breezes across the lake.  We walked an area called Pedal Path and then sat for awhile watching people play in the water.  I loved the scenery across from us as I zoomed up to get the houses with the ski trails now void of snow behind the houses.  I took a lot of beach photos but won't put them up at this time.  People and dogs were having a great time on the shore.

We ended the day at a favorite Mexican Restaurant for Taco Tuesday and they have the best dollar tacos around - 2 dollar beers and 4.00 margaritas.  Great value and food.  We made the mistake of choosing a table inside and as I was sitting by a window near the outsidie patio I could feel a cool breeze come in - All of it made for a great day without power.  We will probably head up there again next week when we are again powerless and if it is a cool breezy summer day I choose the patio this next  time.

WE HAVE A LOT OF HUMMINGBIRDS IN OUR TREE OFF THE DECK

Here are some photos from the past I never put up.  One year I would sit on the deck and take quite a few photos of them.  My camera I have now can't quite get a clear photo.

These birds are funny to watch.  Every time one of the birds come up to the feeder they get dive-bombed by another hummingbird.  Quite entertaining.

SAILBOATS ON THE LAKE OVER THE JULY 4TH HOLIDAY WEEKEND

We were at the lake various times over the ...basically four day weekend at the lakes up here.

I really enjoyed watching the sailboats.  We must have stood there at the railing watching for a half hour - the temps were perfect and everyone seemed to be having so much fun.
