So I made a not too smart choice to go down the mountain to a trail I had no idea what it would be like. I think it was over 85 degrees but it felt hotter in the direct sun. We found the Parkland trail and headed up. It was hot and within not even a hundred steps we would have started an uphill incline. We turned around and chose to go the other way on the trail because I already was hot and forgot my water bottle. We kept going for awhile on that trail and it turned into a nicer walk which ended near a bridle trail which we took to come back down to the car. By the time we got back to the car I was definitely over-heated and vowed to only do these kinds of trails in winter or maybe an early evening walk in spring through fall.
We got in the car and wanted to drive around to see if we could spot any more trails for future reference.
I love the look of heading out east on Baseline and you see Big Bear in the distance looking all big and bold. Probably too many photos but for future reference I'll look back and not so fondly remember this really short hike. This is the drive that took us to Parkland Trail.

DeleteAwesome scenery and no snow! An Alberta Clipper coming through tonight with a dusting to an inch though that was the forecast 3 weeks ago and we got 3 inches of snow
ReplyDeleteAlberta Clipper - i don't know that phrase...wait i probably heard of it before somewhere. So 3" instead of a dusting, lol. Yeah I know what that's like. Hope you get your loved warm weather. I got out for a long time today. It felt good - maybe can do it again tomorrow...now it looks like possibly no snow Thursday through Saturday - but then who knows.

Hi Linda - spring is here off and on - February brought cold and warm, snow and mellow weather and they say spring here - March will be similar. We are getting snow tonight and tomorrow into Saturday off and on.
DeleteI guess I didn't publish my comment. I like the photos look up toward Big Bear, and I would not have lasted long on the trail if it was hot, I had no water, and no energy and no shade anywhere that I can see.

DeleteIt is always difficult to walk in the heat and if the path is difficult and without trees for shade, it becomes even more complicated.

i agree - at least here the highest temp we usually get in the heat of summer is in high 80's, maybe once in awhile in the 90's. But sometimes the monsoonal weather is not good.
