CAMBRIA CALIFORNIA - SCARECROW

Several years ago I took this while visiting the central coast and the small town of Cambria which is near San Simeon - on the coast.  They dress up the whole town with scarecrows. I wouldn't mind visiting there again on my trip in November

Tomorrow, typically we would go to Big Bear for their halloween celebration - but with the winds and such - not sure if it wil be happening.

Here's one of the scarecrows from Cambria.  He looks like a nice guy.

BEAUTIFUL WALK TODAY -

We made sure we got out today and over to Lake Arrowhead before the winds start up tonight.  I keep reading they will be extreme so hoping we don't lose power.  I like the idea that they will shut power off if the winds pose a danger.  I would rather deal with that than having to evacuate .

Anyway, the black oak trees and aspens are amazing right now at the lake.  I took lots of photos but only have time to post one.

FOUR YEARS AGO THIS WEEK IN OCTOBER ..

Looking back the lake was somewhat foggy - it was cool and no wind.  This October has been dry and windy off and on.  These are from 2015.

AN INTERESTING SCENE I SAW ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE APPLE FARM

We were in a small town, Yucaipa- when I was walking down the main street in search of something different to photograph when across the street from where I was walking was this motel.  I stopped to see it more clearly  and then  a wave of nostalgia washed over me.

I remember the trip in 1959 as a kid  when we moved from Kansas City to California and stopped in a few motels along the way.  I don't remember for sure if it was during that move or the trip we did several months before when we came out to California on a vacation but this motel just looked familiar to me.

I saw two boys playing out in front and the first photo shows them standing around and the second to me, looks like the older boy is challenging his younger brother to do something that might get him in trouble.  There's something about the way he is leaning towards the little guy.

Being in this town and walking on the main street seemed such a flash back to the 50's.  Even the smells of fall were present.

Speaking of smells, yesterday I walked out on our deck and someone was burning logs in a fireplace and it was the most fragrant incense smell.  Seeing as how we are surrounded by incense cedars all over the town and in fact, the whole mountain area, it would make sense that this is the wood they were burning.  I don't think I had ever before smelled this type of wood burning ....at least around here before .  Most of the time it is a wood burning smell that can get so obnoxious you have to close the windows.

YESTERDAY'S DAY TRIP TO OAK GLEN, CA

It was a beautiful day filled with color.  Luckily we went on a Thursday and not Friday or the weekend.  This places attracts thousands of visitors on a single day looking to come up for the fall experience of country mountain fall foliage, pumpkins, apples and down home cooking (baking mostly).

Thursday was perfect to go - the weather was mild and skies clear.

Most photos I've posted today are mainly of one particular area from several areas we stopped in at.   This is Riley's Farm.  I've posted photos before quite awhile ago but this is in a different season.
