Earlier we decided to just go for a quick drive around town and over to the road that looks out over the valley. I got out of the jeep to photograph the clouds and had never taken photos of this area except in snow. I thought it looked so pretty. We travel this mountain road to go down to the area(s) where we use to live.
The group of houses down in the hills is Waterman Canyon - which is where the extremely destructive 2003 "Old Fire" started that burned so much of the mountain areas and also in to the city below the mountains. This is the fire that came to our back fence when we lived down the mountain.
That Tudor House below is the house of a local here in the mountains. He had a sports bar that burned down about 3 years ago in town and he is finally opening another one soon - probably with the next several weeks. It takes a long time to open a business in the mountains and the reason according to many locals is that county inspectors take their time approving inspections. I guess they get tired of driving mountain roads.

I think I'd feel dizzy all the time if I lived in one of those houses on the side of the mountain. It's beautiful there, but I'm not a big fan of high, open places. I'll just enjoy your pictures from here. :)
ReplyDeletei don't think i would like living on the side of a hill - especially with lots of rain, mudslides, etc..earthquakes.. so i agree about that. all the town in the mountains though - have a lot of up and down streets, roads, but at least it isn't hanging over the edge. lol

ReplyDeleteYes they are - at least looking down on them. Driving up them with the locals coming home from work or people on vacation - it's like a crazy ride at the fair -..most of the time we are on the road when it's not too crowded.
DeleteIt is beautiful, but I would rather look at the photos than drive up and down those mountains.
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy - when we first would come up I was nervous sometimes especially in fog - it can get really foggy and you can hardly see in front of you but after six years or so I'm very use to it.

ReplyDeletehi Val - it's realy not that bad except in heavy traffic or people who make the drive every day and get complacent about the curves...(like my husband, lol).
